Statewide Interest:
Citizens in the 8-county Big Bend region will be able to call the new 2-1-1 number to access enhanced 24/7 hotline services for crisis intervention, suicide prevention, human service information and referrals to community resources. 2-1-1 Big Bend is one of 11 operating 2-1-1 centers in Florida that currently cover 50% of Florida's counties and 74% of the state's population. When all 67 counties have an operating 2-1-1 services within 3 years, the Florida 2-1-1 Network will provide a statewide system of consistent and reliable hotline services that will be an integral part of other statewide systems, such as -the emergency system that responds to disasters and other community crises (e.g. terrorism and health scares), thus complementing and enhancing the existing community resources.

Project Description:
2-1-1 hotline services will be continued and enhanced; provided on a 24/7 basis and including crisis intervention, suicide prevention, human service information and referrals to community resoruces. Issues addressed include mental health, substance abuse, homelessness and many more. Collaborations with organizations providing child care resources and referal, elder help lines, volunteer centers, emergency management, homeless coalitions, law enforcement/911 and others to provide 24/7 hotline coverage for clients of those agencies as well as sharing resource directors and database services to avoid duplications and to enhance those systems. 2-1-1 serves as the clearinghouse for and gateway to community human service programs. 2-1-1 Big Bend will assist neighboring North Florida regions with 2-1-1 implenentation.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
In 2004-05 calls to the Helpline will increase by 20% representing 16,800 callers. Answer rates will increase from less that 90% to 95%. 80% of callers will access a live counselor within 30 seconds. 95% of callers who receive a follow-up call will have a positive satisfaction level with the Helpline 2-1-1 service. Based on follow-up samples, 75% of caller needs will have been met by a community service after the original call. 90% of suicide calls will be de-escalated and require no emergency medical intervention. 100% of resource database records will be less than one year old, assuring the provision of accurate information and referrals.
