Project Description: |
The Village is seeking to expand treatment services for Hispanics who do not speak English. The current program, which is the only one of its kind in Miami-Dade County, currently has funding for only 2? beds, which does not even provide a sufficient number of clients to successfully operate group treatment sessions. The program previously had 10 beds, which enabled group treatment sessions to successfully be conducted, and allowed us to treat approximately 40 clients during the course of the year. However, even with funding for 10 beds, we will not be able to provide services to all of those on our waiting list, which currently numbers 50-60 individuals. Clients spend 3 months in the program, where they receive drug treatment, vocational training, life and social skills training, and English language instruction. The current program is a model program within the U.S. and its 85% completion rate is one of the highest completion rates in the State of Florida for substance abuse treatment programs. |
|
Is this a water project as described in Chapter 2002-291, Laws of Florida? |
No |
|
Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
Of the Hispanic clients who complete treatment, 95% will decrease their past month drug use, 70% will find employment, 80% will decrease their criminal involvement, and 85% will improve their housing situation. Those who complete treatment will increase their family functioning, increase their English language skills, increase their vocational skills, decrease their sexual and drug taking risk behavior, increase their self-esteem, and decrease their mental health symptoms. |
