| This project is the only field research on sawfish in US waters and has been instrumental in evaluating this species for listing on the Federal Endangered Species Act as proposed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. The project requires field research and gathering of biological data on sawfish and sawfish habitat in Florida waters to address the inadequacies of the current state of knowledge and to assist in the development of effective conservation strategies. Past efforts included the identification of important nursery areas and juvenile habitat requirements, an integral component for the conservation of this species. | |||||||||
