| Project Description: |
| To provide data on distribution, habitat needs and habitat use patterns, health and immune functions, responses to boats, vessel traffic patterns and boater compliance with regulations designed to protect manatees. Emphasis for the past two years has been on the thermal biology of manatees and how the potential loss of warm water refuges, such as those at power plants may affect manatee health and survival. The major focus this year is on photo-identification of manatees in southwestern Florida and utilizing these data to help generate estimates about adult manatee survival. Work is done in collaboration with FMRI and the Bureau of Protected Species Management. |
