Rafael Villaverde Multigenerational Program

Requester: Ramon Perez-Dorrbecker, President and CEO Organization: Little Havana Activities & Nutrition Centers of Dade County, Inc.

Project Title: Rafael Villaverde Multigenerational Program Date Submitted 1/16/2004 2:30:40 PM

Sponsors: Diaz de la Portilla

Statewide Interest:
With the funding requested, LHANC would develop a comprehensive multigenerational campus environment encompassing child day care, center-based and in-home services, primary medical care, transportation, Adult Day Care, job training and with this requested funding, a low-income housing facility, adding the very much needed supportive housing services. With the addition of the proposed project expansion, a property which is currently vacant and underused, will help in the revitalization of SW 8th Street. Furthermore, with bringing more residents into the area will produce additional revenue for small local businesses that depend on local neighborhood residents for their success. Moreover, with the additional space and expanded services, LHANC will be able to better serve its current elderly participants and expand its overall services to help even more elderly residents of Miami-Dade County helping them stay healthy and active in their communities and living at home independently, albeit with some assistance, and delaying or preventing their placement into nursing homes at a higher cost to the state.
