Project Description: |
Design, permitting and construction of approximately 15 miles of 18" -24" reclaimed water/industrial process water pipelines connecting the existing North County WWTP and Florida Power & Light's Manatee Generating Plant Cooling Pond to the Piney Point Phosphoric Acid Plant, now in receivership and under the management control of FDEP. Construction of pump stations, valves, and telemetry for distribution of reclaimed water to agricultural properties served by the distribution pipelines and upgrades to the impoundment storage capabilities at the FPL cooling pond are also included in the proposal. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
This system, if constructed, will provide a beneficial use for highly treated (reverse osmosis product)industrial waste water discharged during the 5- to 10-year closure period of the former Piney Point Phorsphoric Complex. The closure is being funded by FDEP with treated water currently discharged to Tampa Bay. The project area is in the Most Impacted Area of the Southern Water Use Caution Area (SWUCA) declared by SWFWMD. Beneficial use of the industrial waste water (estimated to exceed 1.2 billion gallons) for agriculture irrigation will conserve and protect the quantity of water in the stressed Floridan aquifer, which is currently being used for agriculture irrigation. |
