Statewide Interest: |
DCA standards are directed to improve the quality of life for those persons in need, living in target areas located within Oviedo. The monies would attain the goal of DCA standards. Given the financial feasibility and restraint of the City's and Seminole County's budgets, this request would be the only way to help those most needy in the Oviedo Community. The City of Oviedo makes his application due to its jurisdiction of the area. |

Project Description: |
Weatherize homes of low-income families complying DCA standards. This includes replacing weather insulation, installing weather-stripping, replacing roofing, replacing doors and windows. Approximately 375 homes have been identified in the City of Oviedo that need major energy renovations. From $1,000 to $10,000 is estimated as the amount of reparis that would give these residents the possibility of receiving a utility bill they could afford. These residents have, in many instances, been in the same houses from the 1950's. They are not in an affluent neighborhood, which suggest they are struggling to meet the daily household requirements necessary to maintain single-family households. The City of Oviedo is a bedroom community that struggles on a weekly basis to keep up with the infrastructure that is demanded by this growing population. Those of limited means are left behind and there is truly nothing the City Council can do about it. With these funds, which come to the State as a Federal Grant, these 375 homes would be prioritized from the most needy to the least. But make no mistake, each of the 375 homes are in major need of the State's assistance. |
