Visitors from throughout the state will benefit from the additional and enhanced programming and services offered in the African Exhibit. The project will also provide opportunities for local, regional, and stae cultural groups and artists to actively participate in Zoo programs. |

Project Description: |
Lowry Park Zoo is the highest attended not-for-profit cultural institution in the State. Requested funding from the State Cultural Facilities Program will support Phase II of the Lowry Park Zoo African Exhibit. The project is the second phase of a four-phase nine-acre expansion designed to provide visitors an affordable opportunity learn about the animals and culture of Africa while exploring interactive stations designed to stimulate visitor imagination. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
Outcome objectives: A. 90% of all 700,000 plus annual visitors will participate in the African Exhibit in an enjoyable, non-threatening learning environment designed to stimulate interest in species conservation and wise management of natural resources. B. The Zoo's Education Department will add approximately 25 new African-themed programs including pre-school, grandparent and grandchildren programs, weekend programs for tots and adults, and after-hours programs to broaden public participation. C. The Zoo will integrate African art, history, anthropology and social studies into all new exhibit areas to foster the Zoo's main message of conservation and preservation of natural resources. D. The Zoo's Education Department will develop 10 new grade appropriate African-themed school programs, with teacher input, to respond to Sunshine State guidelines and, where appropriate, to preparte students for FCAT exams. E. At least 150 artists and members of local, regional, and state cultural groups will actively participates in African-themed programs and special events. |
