Project Description:
Provides access to exercise and yoga classes, and speech enhancement exercises such as those taught in the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment program. Provides only speech therapy designated as a Level 1 evidence-based method - which enables individuals with Parkinson's disease to develop and maintain a functional voice. The Lee Silverman Voice Treatment Foundation also has application to voice disorders related to other neurological disorders such as stroke, swallowing, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy. We provide over 20 certified speech clinicians, able to instruct people with Parkinson's in ways to keep their voices alive and strong. We provide a platform for people with Parkinson's and their caregivers to maintain quality of life, to be advocates in receiving the best care possible and to assist and support one another physically, emotionally and socially through bringing Parkinson's into the spotlight, putting a human face on this progressive, debilitating neurological disorder which robs people in their 20's, 30's and 40's as well as individuals in their senior years, of their independence, dignity and dreams. Our exercise classes bring people from Broward and Palm Beach Counties. We provide the means for people to get involved and remain connected to the community. We use the Ali Project, a clinical database that researchers and clinicians use to gather, store and share information to further research efforts to find a cure and improve treatment for quality of life.
