Statewide Interest: |
1. Conservation of a regionally significant population of a wildlife species (Florida scrub-jay) listed as threatened by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
2. Implementation of the following Goals and policies of the State Comprehensive Plan: Goal (9) a; policies 9 (b) 3 and 9(b) 10 (see sections 187.201(9) (a) and 187.201(9) (b) 3 and 10, Florida Statutes).
3. Implementation of Goal 2 of the Southwest Florida Strategic Regional Policy Plan.
4. Implementation of Objective 1.10 and policies 1.10.2 and 1.10.4 of the Natural Resources and Coastal Planning Element of the Charlotte County Comprehensive Plan and compliments policy 1.10.3 of this same element. The Charlotte County Comprehensive Plan has been found in compliance with Chapter 163 Florida Statutes as well as other applicable provisions of the Florida Statutes and Administrative Code by the Florida Department of Community Affairs.
5. Implementation of Objective 1.5 , Objective 1.7 and policies 1.7.1 and 1.7.3 of the Community Facilities and Services Element of the Charlotte County Comprehensive Plan which has been found in compliance with Chapter 163 Florida Statutes as well as other applicable provisions of the Florida Statutes and Administrative Code by the Florida Department of Community Affairs.

Project Description: |
This project includes the acquisition of acres of xeric oak scrub, scrubby-flatwoods, and other scrub communities in order to protect a regionally significant population of the State- and Federally-threatened Florida scrub-jay (Aphelocoma courulescens courulescens) from impacts associated with the development of infrastructure necessary to support growth and economic development in Charlotte County. |
