Statewide Interest: |
Terrace Community School (TCS) is likely to be the most academically sucessful public charter middle school in the State of Florida. The sixth, seventh, & eighth grades had the highest FCAT scores in each grade level in Hillsborough County in 2003. In the prior three consecutive years, TCS also ranked up in the top schools in Hillsborough County and the state. In 2003, TCS was graded as an A school and was the only middle school in Hillsborough County receiving recognition for Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in the "Leave No Child Behind" Initiative. TCS serves as a model for other charter schools and traditional public schools across the state. Its relationship with Museum of Science & Industry (MOSI)at USF is unique and services as an example for other schools and a model for other museums around the state and country. |

Is this a water project as described in Chapter 2002-291, Laws of Florida? |
No |
|
Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
There will be an increase in the number and diversity of the elective programming in the school. There will also be an increase in the number as well as an expansion of the comprehensiveness of the academic programming offered at the school. There will also be a maintenance of the high level of FCAT scores for all grade levels in the school because current program funding will be maintained rather than diverting such funds from current programs to fund new/other programs for the school.
The continued, extraordinary success of TCS on the state's student assessment tests will put TCS in a position of being a model for other schools in the state of Florida and the rest of the country. |
