Project Description: |
Located within the city limits of Oviedo, the Golden Rule Housing and Community Development Corp, Inc. (a 13 year old 501.3C non-profit) owns four building lots on Avenue B. This area is considered the low-income area of the City. Currently, there are not opportunities for low-income families to purchase homes within the City. While the SHIP Program operates in Seminole County, they do not serve the clientele in the same way this program will. It is the intent of the City to assist in providing decent, safe and sanitary housing that is affordable and accessible to the residents of the City. Once the housing is constructed, the families would be selected based on their household income being 80% below the median income according to HUD. Complete backgrounds will be checked to assure, as reasonably as possible, that they will be able to maintain the home. Considering most affordable housing constructed by government entities are "projects", or multiple-family apartments, this focus is to assist disadvantaged citizens to enjoy the pride of homeownership. |
