Project Description: |
The Empowerment Alliance of Southwest Florida CDC will implement and fund programs related to housing, economic development, education and training, and community image in Southwest Florida, including the Seminole Indian Tribe. Specific projects include: funding for a small business dvelopment counselor in the rural area and the development of a target industry analysis and marketing plan, funding for the consumer and credit counseling program, development of a vocational scholarship program, development of 26 single family homes for low income families, providing funding for books for the Harlem Library and sought and received private funding, development and funding of a tutoring program, acting as the fiscal agent for the Weed and Seed Program and the nominating entity for the new Front Porch designation to revitalize Immokalee. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
The tutoring program will raise the skill levels of students, as measured through testing before and after the tutoring. The residents will be trained and educated to be employed in living wage jobs through the vocational scholarship program, measured by the number of students entering and comleting the programs. Safe and affordable housing is provided to residents through the construction of 26 single family homes for low income families. Residents are prepared and educated for homeownmership through consumer and credit counseling services, measured by the number of residents who receive counseling and mortgages. Entrepeneurs are educated and prepared to start and operate a business, measured by the number of business owners who attend business counseling sessions with the Small Business Development Center and the formation of a business plan for the Truckers' Association. Residents are taking responsibility for and showing pride in their community, measured by landscaping and beautification projects, recreational improvements, and a redevelopment plan for Harlem Academy Avenue. Residents are reducing criminal activity and drug use and revitalizing their community through the Weed and Seed strategy and the Front Porch program in south Immoklaee to redevelop the area. |
