Project Description: | |||||||||
725 Gulf Shore Drive on Holiday Isle in the city of Destin. Project includes the replacement of a 50,000 gallon per minute pump used to transfer seawater from the Gulf of Mexico into the Destin Harbor. Destin Harbor is a primary tourism feature of teh city of Destin and is plagued by low dissolved oxygen and other water quality problems due to its configuration, heavy boating use and development around the perimeter. The existing pump is inefficient and unreliable due to its mechanical configuration and deterioration from the marine environment. Costly maintainance and perpetual repairs make the current pump system ineffective and cost prohibitive. The proposed program authorized by City council in the FY04 Budget includes the replacement of this pump with a more efficient unit constructed of metals that are better suited for this marine application. Minor structural changes are also planned to improve the hydraulic efficiency of this station. | |||||||||
