Project Description:
Water distribution and drainage improvements for Royal Palm Ranches. The area known as Royal Palm Ranches is currently in unincorporated Broward County. It is generally described as the area south of Stirling Road, east of Palm Avenue, north of Brian Piccolo Park and west of 90th Avenue. Following Hurricane Irene in October 1999 and the Unnamed Storm in October 2000, this area was greatly impacted by serious flooding lasting for periods of up to ten days after these storms. As a result of this extended period of flooding, serious health and safety problems were created by the residents' inability to enter or exit their homes. This extended flooding period put the residents in jeopardy of contaminated water supply since the area is presently being serviced by individual wells. This area is proposed for future annexation into the City of Cooper City and it is urgent that the area be brought up to the existing level of service enjoyed by the other residents of Cooper City prior to annexation. Because of this, the City of Cooper City and Broward County jointly request state grants to protect the health and safety of the residents in this transitional neighborhood.

Is this a water project as described in Chapter 2002-291, Laws of Florida? Yes
Has the project been submitted to the Department of Environmental Protection? No
DEP Identfying Number: C-15802

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
The requested improvements will be for drainage work specified in the Craven & Thompson Drainage and Water Control Study of December 2000. Since this area is currently in unincorporated Broward County, we are attempting to get funding to improve the local drainage problems in the area. The localized flooding is further aggravated by the inability of the South Florida Water Management District's C-11 Canal System to handle the gravity flow from the area of the Central Broward Water Control District. South Florida Water Management District is presently funding a study to analyze the problems in the C-11 Canal area and to make the recommendations for possible improvements.
