I n addition, the upper Ocklawaha River and Lake Apopka are designated priority water bodies under the 1987 Surface Water Improvement and Management SWIM Act. |

Project Description: |
The Upper Ocklawaha River basin Initiative is an ongoing projest to restore, protect and enhance the Upper Ocklawaha River, its tributaries, and Lake Apopka. Funding through this initiative will help restore and enhance the chain of lakes system. Some examples of subprojects that could be funded are
Nutrient Loading Reduction Enhanced Lake Level Fluctuations and Lake Management Development of PLRGs for the Lake Harris Chain of Lakes Habitat restoration-Planting of Desireable Vegetation on Lake Apopka ,Ocklawaha River Basin Feasability,
Phosphorus Concentration Reduction-Construction of Inflow Pump Station for Lake Apopka Marsh Flow-Way, Phase I Restoration of the North Shore of Lake Apopka Wetland and Aquatic Habitat Restoration,

Improved water quality (i.e. reduced phosphorus levels); percentage reduction in average phosphorus loading to the Harris Chain of Lakes; increased discharge of floodwaters along the natural flow-path that excisted between Lake harris and Griffin befire the 1920s; modifications along the Dora Canal to reduce structural flooding;less residual pesticide contaminants in soils;acres of submerged aquatic vegetation. |
