Project Description:
Four-laning of State Road 78 (Pine Island Road) from Chiquita Boulevard to Burnt Store Road (completion of the right-of-way phase).

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
This project is needed to maintain the assigned Level of Service C on this primary hurricane evacuation route serving residents of Cape Coral, Matlacha and Pine Island. It will also improve safety conditions along this segment of SR 78, as well as provide an improvement to a direct link to I-75 and US 41 for tourists and freight, increase productivity along one of the state's Trade and Tourism Corridors, create 1494 full-time positions with over $43.6 million in wages, and 1084 post-construction jobs (retail and service related) with $31.3 million in wages. Further, the mixed-use development encouraged along this corridor will promote the integration of different modes of transportation such as public transit, bicycle and pedestrian movements for people who live, work and shop in the villages.
