Project Description:
Program to provide multidisciplinary services to children who have sustained acute neurological conditions. These services include: 1. Identify and provide services to children beginning in the early phases of their hospitalization. 2. Utilize standardized and functional assessment techniques to address the child's current and potential neuropsychological, academic, emotional, and neurobehavioral status. 3. Develop an individualized school reentry plan for the child and family. 4. Provide ongoing consultation regarding neuropsychological, neurobehavioral, and educational programming, with preventative and remedial follow-up services as needed. 5. Provide parent, student, educator, and community education. This request will increase services offered by UM/Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Is this a water project as described in Chapter 2002-291, Laws of Florida? No

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Increase the number of children with brain injury that re-enter school with the appropriate classroom accomodations and services, and reduce the number of behavioral problems that these children exhibit. Standardized measures will be used to evaluate outcome, including reports of academic and behavioral functioning at school and home, self report of parental stress/coping, re-assessment of the child's cognitive status at regular intervals, and report of legal and substance abuse involvement at regular follow-up intervals. It is expected that the children/adolescents in our program will have at least a 50% reduction in behavioral and school difficulties and will have zero involvement in the legal system.
