Project Description: |
Coastal Behavioral Healthcare's Family Emergency Treatment Center (FETC) is a walk-in mental health clinic, which provides immediate assistance to individuals and families struggling with mental health, substance abuse, and economic issues. A major goal of the FETC is to provide a diversion from more costly programs such as crisis stabilization units, hospitalization, or admission to detoxification services. The program will also include trauma-specific assessment and treatment services for children who are victims of physical abuse and/or who have experienced multiple traumatic events. |

Is this a water project as described in Chapter 2002-291, Laws of Florida? |
No |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
Research indicates that there is a strong correlation between childhood trauma and subsequent mental health problems. A study conducted in Sarasota County indicated that 84% of children sampled experienced at least one traumatic event (intentionaland/or unintentional), yet no trauma-specific treatment is available in the community. Subsequently, this program will offer trauma-specific treatment services with a measurable outcome of substantial improvement in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of trauma-related mental health and substance abuse disorders experienced by children. Over 150 children per year will be provided the necessary sreening, assessment and treatment services they so urgently need. In addition, services offered to individuals and/or families continue to include:crisis intervention for both individuals and faimilies;brief solution focused counseling; referral to ongoing services; assistance with obtaining services such as housing, food, and job services.
In addition, the FETC functions as the "access" point for Coastal Behavioral Healthcare, Inc., services. By offering prevention, intervention and assessment at "one-stop", a seamless level of care is provided and there is increased accessibility regardless of ability to pay. Since August 2002, over 1700 families and individuals have received services at the primary FETC centered location. Since July 2001, over 1200 additional children have been provided assessment and referral services at the child-centered location. Currently over 130 new clients per month are seen. A primary strength of the program is its community collaborations. Over 250 referrals to the FETC have come from 21 community organizations, including agencies like the Salvation Army who refer weekly. The program has referred over 450 individuals and/or families to other organizations in the community, offering linkage for long-term care. |
