Project Description:
The Roots Classical Series is the most important public service segment of the Roots Cultural Festival. The Classical Series has historically served Palm Beach County residents who fall within the very low to moderate income range. Most of the participants in The Classical Series have little or no exposure to culture or the arts. Additionally, through support for local artists, musicians, and educators, The Classical Series is an economic boost for the County's residents. The education portion of The Classical Series teaches children vocals, theater, band instrumentation, steel drums, creative writing, keyboards, creative dance, and strings. The instruction is provided by professional educators, professional artists and musicians, and volunteers as appropriate. The program allows the children to cycle through the disciplines throughout the entire calendar year. Through these rotations, children are exposed to a world of learning that will develop many of the traits and characteristics for success in school, and provide for a positive, productive, and peaceful context to increased learning. Students apply their talents through performances of music, oration, and dance in superior venues such as the Old School Square Performing Arts Center in Delray Beach. With modestly priced shows this allows families to see their children perform while at the same time providing access to the community in general with the opportunity to see the professionally performed arts presentations. This also exposes the historically less educated and affluent residents of the County and boosts their direct support for the community and the arts in general.
