Statewide Interest: |
The City of Crestview and Okaloosa County have committed to a partnership to provide shared services to state and federal agencies for the mutual benefit of taxpayers and the agricultural community. This facility will create a one-stop service center to house regional offices for agricultural agencies in a multi-county area (Okaloosa, Walton, Santa Rosa). It will meet the stated goals of Ch. 570.07 by facilitating activities that foster a better understanding and more efficient cooperation among producers, dealers, buyers, food editors and the public in promoting Florida agriculture and its products. It will provide a facility wherein trade breakfasts, luncheons, dinners, meetings, conferences and conventions can be held in furthering the promotion of Florida agricultural products. The plan includes appropriate design in accordance with state guidelines for construction of the building for use as a hurricane shelter. |

Project Description: |
The Okaloosa County Agricultural Facility will be integrated in the City of Crestview's on-going Multi-Purpose Assembly Facility project to serve taxpayers more efficiently. Agriculture will be promoted by providing an indoor assembly area to conduct product expos, career fairs, trade fairs and 4-H competitions. Master Gardeners, Family and Community Educators, 4-H volunteers, Cattlemen's Association and other commodity associations will have a location for their meetings. |
|
Is this a project related to a federal or state declared disaster? |
No |
|
Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
The agricultural industry contributes approximately $20 million per year to the local economy. This facility will insure the health of this industry and will result in an even higher economic impact as producers receive education on alternative crops and niche crops. Housing the agricultural facility with the multi-purpose assembly facility will result in higher attendance in the workshops from walk-ins who are attending other events at the assembly facility. In addition, since the USDA office will also be located here, it will generate additional walk-ins. |
