Statewide Interest:
As outlined in the State Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, coordinated efforts are necessary during emergency and disaster situations. Project Description:
During the 2005 hurricane season Islamorada has spent over 2.5 million dollars in hurricane response and recovery. This does not include the reconstruction of Village Hall and associated structure/costs. We still do not have the final totals on money spent in response to Hurricane Wilma. While FEMA has provided funds to cover over 75% of these costs, Islamorada's 12.5% required match has significantly impacted its financial ability to purchase new items or replace some of the old ones damaged or destroyed over the past six months. With this in mind, Islamorada is requesting funds to purchase the following equipment: one 60 foot self-supporting communications tower and 12 portable satellite phones.
