Project Description:
The planning and expansion of this facility will allow for innovative applied research to be conducted investigating several alternate aquaculture species for culture in Florida. In addition, this facility will allow researchers to conduct applied research to answer critical questions to improve the economic viability of current aquaculture operations in Florida. This facility is unique to other research facilities because of the ablity to conduct freshwater or brackish water research in both tanks and open ponds, and to conduct this research in a warmer region of Florida, an essential requirement for some of the species with the most potential for commercial production. In addition, research can be conducted at this facility with saltweater species in re-circulating sytems.

To increase the Agriculture diversity and meet the growing demand of the fish food industry. The development of alternative agricultural practices is essential for the survival of many growers due to the decline of the citrus industry.
