t ratings for drop-outs, truancy, and juvenile crime. In addition, both cities are designated empowerment and weed and seed sites. There is a direct correlation between family violence and school achievement. Thus, this request addresses the reduction of crimes as its first priority and educational achievement as secondary.Request will reduce domestic crimes and provide support services to victims of domestic and sexual violence, both adults and children. The Miami-Dade County Alliance for Human Services (MD AHS) identified South Dade as one of its targeted high need areas for increased safety for domestic violence, rape and sexual assault victims in its 2001-2004 Social Service Master Plan (SSMP). The SSMP ranked Homestead 2nd out of 34 high-need communities identified for Children, Youth and Families priority services. The GIS maps utilized by the FL Dept. of Children & Families ranked commission districts 8 & 9 (both corresponding to Homestead/Florida City) as fifth and fourth, respectively, for Child Maltreatment cases out of thirteen commission districts; GIS maps for domestic violence ranked Life Zone 10 (South Dade) as having the fourth highest rate of DV out of 10 life zones. Project Description: |
The Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center provides comprehensive services to victims of crime including families (mostly women and children) who suffer from domestic and/or sexual assault and/or child abuse, through a coordinated service delivery network consisting of more than fifteen (15)agencies. Full case management, invidual counseling, group and family therapy, legal advocacy and court representation, 911 on-call advocacy, statewide Sexual Assault hotline, emergency financial and relocation assistance, and a full range of prevention services including family preservation, parenting skills training and community education on DV, SA, HIV/AIDS and child abuse. |
