Project Description:
This project provides for the construction of a hurricane rated storage facility located at the City of Boca Raton's Utility Services Complex as well as funding to harden existing buildings that function as the Utility Services Emergency Operations Center during responses to emergencies. The storage facility would be utilized to store essential and critical equipments and supplies that are necessary to respond and mitigate emergencies. Currently, essential and critical equipment and supplies such as portable generators, electrical equipment, and hurricane supplies are stored in a variety of locations on-site including metal sheds and covered storage areas. The construction of a hardened storage facility will centralize and ensure the availability of critical and essential equipment and supplies necessary to provide both water and wastewater services in response to emergencies. The hardening of existing buildings that function as the Utility Services Emergency Operations Center will ensure the safety of essential personnel needed to maintain operations during and in response to emergencies. The ability to protect and safeguard critical and essential personnel, equipment, and supplies for response to emergencies enables the continuation of water and wastewater services to the public and reduces the potential for hazardous pollution of the land surface and ground waters.
