Project Description:
The requested state funds are to complete phase II of a project to remove failing septic tanks from the coastal communities of Taylor County. Phase I construction was completed in December 2005, where over 350 septic tanks were removed from Cedar Island, Keaton Beach and Ezell Beach. Phase I also included construction of an 80,000 gallon per day wastewater treatment plant and sprayfield, which was sized to accomodate the anticipated wastewater from the Phase II construction. Phase II will extend wastewater collection lines to Dekle Beach and Dark Island and is estimated to cost 2,600,000. Phase II construction will add an additional 100 homes to the PhaseI system. Currently, $750,000 has been appropriated through EPA with an addition grant/loan of $850,000 from USDA rural development. The preliminary engineering report and the environmental assessment for phase II has been completed.
