Project Title: Riverside Redevelopment Park Date Submitted 1/13/2006 11:44:23 AM

Sponsors: Crist

Statewide Interest:
The riverfront park is an integral part of one of the largest planned redevelopment projects in central Florida. A new downtown for the City of Temple Terrace is planned as a pedestrian oriented, walkable community that will set an example of sustainable, urban development in an inner ring City. The project has generated national interest and will certainly be a focus of other communities in the State of Florida.

Project Description:
Rather than allow its riverfront redevelopment property to be privately developed, 2000 Temple Terrace citizens in the summer of 2004 agreed at public charrettes that 3.5 acres of prime Hillsborough River frontage should become a public park. The proposed park area is included within the City of Temple Terrace Downtown Redevelopment Master Plan, and will anchor a public linear green space component that runs through the proposed redevelopment plan and will be integral to the success of the overall project. Currently undeveloped and canopied with beautiful oaks, the future riverfront park will be designed to enhance its natural attributes, and will accommodate non-motorized watercraft such as canoes, kayaks, and crew boats. Elements of the project will consist of a 150 to 200 foot pier, a pavilion, an urban boardwalk, a floating dock for canoes, kayaks, and crew boats, a storage facility for these boats, a playground, sidewalks, restrooms, site lighting, and a riverfront promenade.
