Project Description:
Design and construction of a storm water management system for N.E. 96th Street, the ONLY East-West thoroughfare across the municipality's business and residential districts. Since incorporation in 1938, we have depended on french drains for storm water management, which, over time, have become ineffective to an unacceptable level. This vital, high-volume connector between I-95 and US 1 has been closed numerous times due to unmanageable storm water levels, homes have been flooded and pumping efforts by Public Works crews have provided minimal relief. We propose a system of injection wells/exfiltration measures with four inter-connected drains at each of six key intersections to ensure adequate storm water management capabilities for these key locations. Actual structural/engineering elements will be determined through the design process. Locations are NE 96th Street and Grand Concourse. Additional drainage improvements are needed on Grand Concourse to prevent flooding of residential property.
