Our youth education and empowerment programs have helped thousands of youth through the years to navigate difficult adjustments at home, and in school, with college preparation, career readiness and giving back through community service. Our neighborhood partnership program assists families in need through a network of services, counseling and referral. BTC's afterschool activities and leadership training continues to develop a new generation of youth empowered to make a difference in their lives and the lives of others. |

Project Description: |
BTC's After School Program currently provides daily services to 350 youth ages 6-18 providing tutoring in math, reading and science, indoor recreation programs, organized intramural sports that include football, basketball and softball and technology training. Youth are picked up each afternoon from school. They are served snacks and supper before being transported to their homes. Our afterschool program includes teacher workdays and school breaks where services and constructive activities are provided for youth in the community.
Youth who come to Tacolcy find a warm, welcoming and disciplined learning environment. We encourage giving back to the community while learning about the local environment, it's flora, fauna and by helping to design and build community gardens. We plan to expand and enhance existing programs with the implementation of a leadership development curriculum that incorporates life skills, employability skills, a college readiness lab and interactive career exploration.
BTC is in the heart of Liberty City and within walking distance of two high schools both with multiple "F" grading for FCAT testing. Our staff has designed a curriculum to enhance skills needed to successfully pass the FCAT. In our expanded after school program we will provide one-on one tutoring for students that have failed the FCAT on the first attempt. |
