Project Description: |
The Loxahatchee River is the southern most tributary of the Indian River Lagoon and includes the NW fork of the Loxahatchee River, the first nationally designated Wild and Scenic River in Florida. The historic watershed, over 750 square miles, has been reduced by flood control basins and drainage districts to approx. 277 square miles in southern Martin and northen Palm Beach Counties. The Loxahatchee River Preservation Initiative(LRPI) includes several key projects critical to preserving the long term health of the River. Urban stormwater improvements and the restoration of other tributaries including the estuarine portions of the river system are emphasized in the LRPI. This year the initiative includes 14 projects relating to stormwater and habitat restoration. |
