Statewide Interest: |
Provides for the saftey and security of citizens and visitors and law enforcement officers. These funds will be used to install hardware (cameras) and software (MDT & AFR) in police cars. This technology will allow officers to interface with other City entities as well as FCIC, NCIC and the Federal Terrorism databases. The cameras will aid in the successful prosecution of criminals who would be filmed in the act of committing crimes. |

Project Description: |
These funds will be used to purchase sixty (60) sets of Computer Aided Dispatch Mobile Data Terminals (MDT) and Automated Field Reporting (AFR) and a number of cameras to be installed in police vehicles. The MDT system provides real time query capability to FCIC/NCIC and local public safety databases. The AFR system provides electronic transfer of Incident and Accident reports. Included in the purchased of these sets are: vehicle data radios; GPS units; docking stations; laptops; operating software; and installation services. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
Automation of these systems improves the ability to apprehend suspects, reduces manual processing and provides greater data availability. This will improve data migration between the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, the County Sheriff and the Clerk of Courts. The cameras in police cars will significantly increase officer safety and successful prosecution. |
