Statewide Interest: |
The City of Plantation is situated 8 miles from the Atlantic Ocean near Ft. Lauderdale, 10 miles to the west is the Everglades. It is charged with the purveyance of potable water and sanitary sewer essential to the health, safety and welfare of the community.
Hurricanes Francis, Jeanne, Katrina and Wilma demonstrated a clear need to be able to maintain the collection of sewage when electrical power is eliminated by storm damage such as wind and flooding. Further, it is necessary to reduce potable water flow to the public if the resulting sewage from that potable water flow cannot be addressed in a safe manner without risk of public contact with sewage spills.
The need for an emergency generator is identified and substantiated in the Florida Statutes, local, county, and in state emergency operations plans.
