Project Description:
Sumter Boulevard Phase 2 starts at US-41 and heads north to Appomattox, approximately 1.4 Miles. The project will turn the existing 2 lane undivided roadway with swale drainage into a 4 lane divided roadway with concrete curbs and closed drainage. The new roadway can be used as an evacuation route for city residents when complete as it will be elevated to remain dry in times of flooding. In addition to increasing the vehicle capacity and improving existing hazardous drives and access points near US-41, it will improve local drainage and handle storm water as approved by SWFWMD. There will be a new 4 lane concrete bridge constructed over the Coco plum waterway and other urban design features such as sidewalks, bike paths, landscaping, signage and distinctive lighting. It will complement and extend the gateway features provided in Phase 1. Construction of Sumter Blvd.
