Orientation to ICCD Clubhouses

Requester: Elliott Steele Organization: Vincent House/VanGogh's Pallette, Inc.

Project Title: Orientation to ICCD Clubhouses Date Submitted 1/5/2006 8:51:50 AM

Sponsors: Jones

Statewide Interest:
3. ICCD Clubhouses, supported by NAMI-Florida, already have statewide acceptance as a best practice for rehabilitating people with serious mental illnesses. Clubhouse Orientation would provide in-depth information to Floridians interested in developing clubhouses. In addition, potential clubhouses statewide could attend a one week orientation that would provide detailed start-up information. This would ensure that prospective clubhouses know the commitment they must make to the evidence based ICCD model to be truly successful. Successful implementation results in improved employment outcomes and quality of life for participants while decreasing hospitalizations.

Project Description:
7. Provide Clubhouse Orientation for potential clubhouses to be able to develop and provide comprehensive psychiatric rehabilitation services. Orientation participants will receive didactic and in-vivo participation at Vincent House, an ICCD accredited clubhouse. Provide exposure to their highly successful employment program, which employs over 40% of their average daily attending members in paid, integrated employment in the community. Provide follow-up consultative services to participating clubhouses including linkage with ICCD internationally recognized training bases and written objectives/action plans for participants to better understand the holistic approach needed for successful implementation of this evidence based practice.

Is this a project related to a federal or state declared disaster? No

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
9. Outcomes from implementing ICCD clubhouses will result in societal reintegration into areas of employment, education, social networks, housing and a decrease in psychiatric hospitalizations through effective interventions. Thia benefits not only the clubhouse but society in general as many clubhouse participants become income producing citizens. E.g. in 2004, the participants of the 32 Massachusetts clubhouses collectively earned $10.5 million in all forms of employment.
