| Project Description: |
| Creating Lasting Family Connections is one of two programs that are offered in Putnam County by the Juvenile Crime Prevention Office. In 2003 the Putnam County BOCC was awarded a Title V Delinquency Prevention Grant to implement the CLFC Program, designed to include parents in the prevention process since research has shown that parental involvement is important in the prevention of substance abuse problems, gang involvment, and other problems. CLFC is licensed by the DCF as a Substance Abuse Level 2 Prevention Program. CLFC has demonstrated results in reducing and delaying the onset of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs use, and reducing uncontrolled and violent behavior in youth. The program has been recognized as an effective science-based program by the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration, the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, the Office of Juvenile Justive and Delinquency Prevention, the U.S. Department of Education, the White House Office of Drug Control Policy, and the International Youth Foundation. |

| Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
| Reduce frequency of violent behavior by 15% or as indicated by a test of statistical significance healthy beliefs. Training sessions for adults focus on family management, family enforcement and communication training and the opportunity to practice skills in a safe peer-group setting. Reduce frequency of youth alcohol, tobacco and other drug use or intent to use by 15% or a test of statistical significance. 85% of the youth who participate in at least two program activities will be crime free and drug free during their enrollment and remain crime free and drug free for 6 months following the completion of project activities. Parents who complete all 3 program modules will report improvement in parent/child bonding, help-seeking behavior, and involvement with youth in setting alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use rules. |
