This phased project addresses the removal of approximately 550 septic tanks from the service. Nitrate rich septic tank effluent percolates through the soil and into an unconfirmed portion of the Floridan Aquifer which discharge into the Santa Fe River watershed, a tributary of the Suwannee River. These rivers are Water Management District Priority Waterbodies.

Project Description:
Using existing regional facilties instead of building additonal capacity. Project proposes connection to existing Gainesville Regional Utilities wastewaster system with a seven-mile long sewer line along SR 24 corridor. Will decommission 550 septic tanks - diverting wastewater from the acquifer, Santa Fe River Watershed and the Suwannee River.

Removal of approximately 550 septic tanks from service, following construction of all phases of the sewer system, will reduce the nitrate loading on the unconfined aquifer by approximately 13,000 pounds per year.
