Nitrate rich septic tank effluent percolates through the soil and into an unconfirmed portion of the Floridan Aquifer which discharge into the Santa Fe River watershed, a tributary of the Suwannee River. These rivers are Water Management District Priority Waterbodies. |

Project Description: |
Using existing regional facilties instead of building additonal capacity. Project proposes connection to existing Gainesville Regional Utilities wastewaster system with a seven-mile long sewer line along SR 24 corridor. Will decommission 550 septic tanks - diverting wastewater from the acquifer, Santa Fe River Watershed and the Suwannee River. |
