| Project Description: |
| The proposed project will widen overlay and install a multi-use path the entrie lenght of Bay Loop Road in walton County. It will also pave both Red Barn Road and Earl Godwin Road. In addition, the project will install several stormwater treatment structures to prevent futher contamination of the Choctawhatchee Bay from stormwater runoff, as well as improve the existing conveyance and drainage systems in that area. The Bay loop area is a part of the basin known as Lafayette Creek. the existing storm water drainage system in the project area was constructed before the implementation of Florida's stormwater treatment rules. The current untreated discharge of the basin is via a ditch network consisting of secondary conveyance ditches of varying sizes with a top width of one to tow feet with 2.1 side slopes to the final primary conveyance discharge ditch with a top width of approximately 8 feet with 2.1 side slopes. |

| The proposed project will sugnificantly reduce sediment and nutrient loads to the Bay and subsequently protect the environment. recent Laboratory results for turbidity samples taken from the stormwater outfall points on red Barn Road range from 40 to 400NTU. The background turbidity range between 1 to 56 NTU. The roads in the project area continue to erode and contribute sediment from stormwater runoff to the Bay. As a result of the sediment loading, habitat is silted in a benthic invertebrates and se grasses are destroyed. In addition, suspended solids in the water column and increased turbidity reduce light penetration essential to sea grasses for phot synthesis to occur. |
