Project Description: |
To design, permit, assemble and install a Plasma Arc Recycler system at the City of Dunedins Wastewater Facility. This system will produce renewable energy in the form of bio-gas as an alternative fuel source to operate an existing electric generator and to power modified city vehicles. The system will be operated to produce bio-solids that meet Class A standards as defined in EPA Part 503 Standards for Use or Disposal of Sewage Sludge. System design, permitting and operations will be organized to identify and resolve any issues or concerns expressed by the City and /or the Florida Department of Environmental Regulations. |
|
Is this a project related to a federal or state declared disaster? |
No |
|
Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
The installation will become a demonstration center for the use of Plasma Arc technology for the recovery of an alternative fuel gas and other reusable byproducts from municipal wastewater treatment biosolids (sludge). Plasma Arc technology has been successfully used in small scale test applications. This proposal provides for design, construction and testing on a commercial application basis. The demonstration center will be located at the City of Dunedin wastewater reclamation facility. The demonstration center is intended to confirm the bases for equipment selection and operational optimization. Such optimization will reduce biosolids management cost for the City of Dunedin and subsequently, present a basis for more effective biosolids management at municipal wastewater treatment systems throughout Florida. In addition, the demonstrated commercial success of this process application would facilitate the expansion of Magnegas, a Tarpon Springs company, while creating additional local jobs in engineering, manufacturing, and management. The commercial by-products of the Plasma Arc system are expected to include a clean burning fuel, an organic liquid fertilizer, and recyclable carbonized solids. Other expected outcomes include the ability to eliminate the existing cost for disposal of municipal biosolids while also eliminating a potential health risk through sterilizing those biosolids. |
