Project Description: |
To Provide daily education, social and recreational activities for seniors over the age 60. The Elderly Day Care program is a social services program whose main focus is to provide daily educational, social and recreational activities for seniors over the age of 60. Research has shown that there is a tremendous need within the community to have a supportive program for our senior population.
This program through the Upper Room Assembly of God Church and Love South Dade has been operating for approximately five years. Presently the number of attendees is small in number because of limited financial support, staff and supplies. One of our main goals is to increase the number of seniors we are able to serve.
The seniors are presently meeting one day per week, with operating hours from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. We would like to increase the dates and times of operation to at least three times per week and eight hours per day.
Our future vision is to create a seniors program that would be able to meet the social, recreational, educational and medical needs of the seniors in the community within a safe and caring environment.
A fully functioning community seniors caring center would be able to address the vast needs of the senior population. Services we would like to be able to provide are as follows:
A critical care nurse one day per week to review the program and the volunteer nurses.
Transportation and driver for social activities.
Orderlies or nursing assistants to help with physical exercise and bathroom needs.
Video, music and sound equipment for recreational activities.
Consulting psychologist/therapist for early Alzheimers detection.
Instructor for mental stimulation and computer skills.
Nutritional to address nutritional needs and make sure they are receiving enough food.
Practioner for vision, hearing and basic testing.
 Consulting cardiologist and orthopedic doctor.
