The SRP was formalized in 1999 with primary focus of reducing nitrates in the ground water, surface water, springs & estuary. Through the use of voluntary incentive based programs, the focus has been on reducing nitrogen inputs by developing conservation plans outlining the use of Best Management Practicese (BMP'S). The goal is an eventual reduction in nitrates in the Suwannee River Basin and to optimized the use of nitrates by agriculture. |
