Project Description: |
General construction funds are needed to construct an EOC to be located within a Public Safety facility that also includes the Communications Systems/911 Division, Emergency Management Administration, Fire Rescue agencies, to include areas for the Sheriff's Office, Fire Rescue and Lake-Sumter Emergency Medical Services dispatch. The facility will include all the hardened capabilities with enhanced construction to ensure the safe and secure operations during hurricanes and against the growing threat of terrorism in any stage - chemical, nuclear, or biological. The Florida Legislature provided a direct appropriation of $1 million to Lake County in 2006 for new construction of an EOC. The Florida Legislature appropriated an additional $1 million to the County in 2007; however, this is not a general appropriation, but rather an appropriation tied to the federally funded Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. The County has already been notified by the Division of Emergency Management of a potential Hazard Mitigation Grant Program award of approximately $1.5 million to fully mitigate the new facility and bring it "above code", in addition to approximately $177,000 in funding from HB 7121 to go towards the mitigation component of the project. |
