The Junior Achievement Academy Partnership provides additional rigor and relevance to Florida School Districts development and implementation of Career Path Academies, by supplementing the Academies business, career and social studies curricula, with Junior Achievements own internationally recognized entrepreneurship, business and economics courses, thus enhancing students understanding of our economic system, and improving their financial literacy and workforce readiness. Each of the participating JA district offices will strengthen the Career Academies community and business partnerships by introducing their own unique and long standing business partner relationships. Local business and community volunteers will be recruited and trained to deliver the experiential learning JA curricula in new Academy classes across the state. As a result of their enrollment in a JA supported Academy, students will leave school with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for success in a post-secondary educational program and with the work readiness skills necessary for immediate entry into a career field. |

Project Description: |
Funding is requested to teach financial literacy, work force readiness, business, economics and entrepreneurship to middle and high school students across Florida. Junior Achievement will support Florida School Districts Career Path Academies , by delivering our proven financial literacy, business and economics curricula to their students, in partnership with local businesses, industries, economic development agencies, and post-secondary institutions. Students will be taught by volunteers recruited from the local business community and trained by Junior Achievement staff. JAs award winning and tested curricula provide hands on experiences that bring the lessons alive for the students. The volunteers are encouraged to share their own life experiences, further enhancing the real world feel of the lesson plans. All classes will enhance and support the Academies regular curriculum. A full range of courses are offered. Depending upon their students particular needs, Career Path Academies can choose from the following list of classes:Middle School:
JA Its My Business! Program is an entrepreneurship curriculum for students in grades six, seven, and eight. Students are encouraged to use critical thinking, to learn entrepreneurial skills, and to adopt positive attitudes, as they explore their career aspirations.
JA America Works Program provides students with examples of how business and entrepreneurship affected the economic development of the United States during the 19th century. Students learn how entrepreneurs brought innovative and affordable products to market and how industrialization over the course of our countrys history has increased productivity.
JA Economics for Success explores personal finance and students education and career options, based upon their self-identified skills, interests and values. Also demonstrates the economic benefits of staying in school.
JA Job Shadow Program introduces students to various career options through one day on-site orientations or more extensive internships. Job Shadow is an authentic real world work experience for students, enhanced by classroom preparation and follow up activities.
JA Careers with a Purpose helps students explore their skills , interests and values, with a view toward making career decisions.
High School:
The JA Company Program encompasses business, entrepreneurship, and economics curriculum for students in grades nine through twelve. Students make decisions on forming their own company, developing a product or service to market and sell, manage their expenses, sell stock in their company and deliver a profit to their share holders.
The JA Titan Program introduces critical economics theories and management decisions through an interactive simulation. Students learn to make decisions through a highly engaging, competitive game that develops critical entrepreneurial thinking skills. Under the direction of the volunteer in the classroom, students compete online in the industry of the fictional Holo-Generator. During each simulated business quarter, students must enter decisions on price, production, marketing, capital investment, and R & D. The impact of these decisions eventually lead to the success or failure of their Holo-Generator company.
The JA Economics Program brings classic economic theory to life through supplemental computer-based business simulations and a student-run company, enabling the students to put the principles that they have learned to the test, by making the decisions necessary to effectively run a business. This program examines the fundamental concepts of micro-, macro-, and international economics.
JA Banks in Action teaches high school students the principles of the banking industry and introduces them to the challenges of successfully operating a bank in a competitive environment.
JA Success Skills introduces students to 16 work readiness skills and the concepts behind each.
JA Job Shadow for high school students requires a three session course in addition to the job shadow experience itself. Students conduct mock interviews, prepare a resume and complete a job application. After the experience they evaluate themselves and complete a personal action plan.
JA Business Ethics involves students in a series of activities that demonstrate the need for ethical standards when participating in any group, with specific application to the business world.
JA NEFE is a high school financial planning program.
JA Globe is a cross-cultural international business experience.
JA TT Biz us a travel and tourism industry business replication program.
The JA U.S. Entrepreneurs Program focuses on entrepreneurship and the impact entrepreneurs have had on Americas history through their innovations and inventions. They will also be able to see the increased need for government regulation of certain businesses.
