Gadsden County Water-Waste Water Infrastructure

Requester: Ed Dixon, Chairman Organization: Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners

Project Title: Gadsden County Water-Waste Water Infrastructure Date Submitted 1/2/2008 1:58:25 PM

Sponsors: Lawson

Statewide Interest:
This project proposes the continuation of a regional approach to water and waste water services in Gadsden County. The Legislature in FY 2006-07 funded a study of regional utility approach and a report with recommendations will be published in January 2008. It is anticipated the report will recommend a 20 year plan for regional water and waste water cooperation and infrastructure. This project recommends funding the first year of plan suggested in the report. This project is in an area of critical concern, and Gadsden County western border is the Apalachicola River. Protection of the River is important not only to the economic and recreational interests of Gadsden County, but also to Franklin County and the State as a whole. This project is designed to, among other things, decrease the need for septic tanks and provide for a phase-out of existing septic tanks, extend and upgrade potable water lines, and conduct a geological study for an alternative water supply.
