Project Description:
The Coordinated Anti Crime Initiative is a research and activities based project intended to serve as a model for a coordinated approach to crime reduction in a low income, minority predominant community. It is the intent that the design, methodology and outcomes of this project will be worthy of replication in other communities around the state. This initiative is a multi agency collaboration with the University of South Florida, the University of Florida and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. (1) to continue dialogue among the community stakeholders with the goal of developing a community of residents that works toward (a) an appreciation of differences, (b) an awareness of similarities, shared interests and common goals and (c) an agreement to strive, together, toward a safe, stable and livable community; (2) to develop, enhance and/or strengthen the activities of area businesses to foster a mutually beneficial presence in the community; (3) to engage in continual research and evaluation activities which demographically examine the social organization of the community, i.e., quality of life, economic conditions, criminal behavior, cultural aspects, etc.; and, (4) to begin dissemination efforts , i.e. host symposia across state, presenting prototype toolkits for replication purposes (5) Continue the development of a statewide youth crime watch initiative that engages middle and high school youth, school resource officers and school personnel in activities and training designed to help students refrain from criminal behavior.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
The measurable outcomes of the initiative include: (1) Host 4-5 regional symposia to disseminate findings and present toolkits for replication (2) Collaborate with the anti crime initiative partners in developing and delivering a pilot training in order to teach other community group(s) how to undertake anti crime efforts. (3) Continue the process of developing a web based community atlas customized to the University Area. This atlas will use, among other information, previously collected data. The web site will be in user-friendly formats for use by governments, nonprofits, and community groups.
