Project Description: |
Downstream of the bridges there exists buildup of sediments that appear to be from the road runoff or from feeder ditches and drainage ways. If this is roadway sediment then it likely contains contaminates typically associated with pavement runoff. Removal of this material would prevent its eventual downstream transport and that would in turn result in improved water quality.
Cataloging the existing condition of the banks along the entire waterway would allow for prioritizing of activities. These activities couls include maintenance of the feeder systemd that introduce turbidity into the creek, removal of roadway sediment from the creek, and removal of exotic vegetation along the creek to allow for establishment of native plants. Creation of filter marshes on suitable plots of land would enhance the function of the creek from a water quality as well as drainage standpoint. |
|
Is this a project related to a federal or state declared disaster? |
No |
|
Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
Removal of the siltation and vegetation along the creek as well as improvements of feeder system will significantly improve the hydraulic capacity of the creek and the creation of filter marshes on suitable plats of land would enhance the enhance function of the creek from a water quality as well as drainage standpoint. |

Will this project reduce pollutant loadings to a water management district designated 'priority' surface water body? |
Yes |
|
Name of water body: |
Charlotte Harbor |
|
Describe, specifically, how it will reduce loadings, identify anticipated load reductions for total suspended solids, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and other contaminants, and specify the practices that will be used to reduce loadings: |
All stormwater discharge from the Cities corporate limits discharges either to the Caloosahatchee River via numerous natural and manmade systems or Estero Bay via the Ten Mile Canal. Both are part of the Lower Charlotte Harbor a SFWMD priority water body. The proposed system will reduce the listed parameters by employing various BMP's depending upon available lands and treatment opportunities. The Billy's Creek systemwill utilize a multi-celled retention pond treatment marsh to reduce nutrients, suspend solids and sediments. It is anticipated that a minimum load reductionof 25% can be expected from this project. The project will be subject to long term water monitoring to measure the level of success. |
Is the project under construction? |
No |
|
Are you requesting funding for a wastewater project? |
No |
|
Are you requesting funding for a drinking water project? |
