Project Title: Florida's Neighborhood Blueprint Delinquency Prevention Initiative(FNBDP) Date Submitted 1/3/2008 11:18:01 AM

Sponsors: Dawson

Statewide Interest:
The Florida Neighborhood Blueprint Delinquency Prevention Initiative is a community based response to inner city youth crime, disproportionate minority over-representation of children of color and in response to the graduated levels of juvenile offenders into the adult penal system. This coordinated effort is also in compliance with F.S. 985.601, which obligates the Department of Juvenile Justice to develop and coordinate comprehensive services and programs for the prevention, early intervention and treatment of delinquent behavior as an alternative to more costly restrictive settings. Research has identified that reaching youth early reduces the likelihood that they will enter the juvenile justice system. This initiative engages localized community based stakeholders who have a vested interest in realizing a reduction in juvenile delinquency/acts of violent crime. Finally, this initiative is in direct response to the Florida Department of Juvenile Justices Blueprint Commission recommendation # 30.
