Statewide Interest:
The statewide interest addressed is reduction to recidivism rates by implementing a replicable Civic Justice Corps model to provide opportunities for 100 court involved and formerly incarcerated young people in Miami-Dade County, aged 16-24, to serve and be accountable to themselves and their community, gain technical and life skills, earn educational credentials and receive the support services necessary for successful reintegration. This project would serve as the catalyst for Florida to be at the forefront in providing transition services to young people exiting incarceration.

Project Description:
To provide intensive support services to meet work and non-work related needs of court involved youth including re-entry and aftercare issues; engage youth in education programs; engage youth in team based community service projects; provide youth education awards and provide post program placement and support services.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Measurable Outcomes: 80% of youth will participate in activities that lead to and/or facilitate overall youth development and successful employment placement; 50% of participants will earn educational credentials; 60% place in employment in high growth industries or in post secondary education in the first quarter after program completion; 75% of those placed in employment retain employment in the third quarter after exit; ensure that the recidivism rate for program participants is at least 20% less than the local rate; and collection of data to develop a replication strategy.
