South Highlands County has been identified as an area of critical concern for Hurricane Shelters. This building will serve as a community cultural center as well as a hurricane shelter during a state of emergency for residents in Southern Highlands County and evacuees from our coastal areas. Highlands County is a "host" county and does not have a wind compliant shelter in the Lake Placid area.

Construction of a Hurricane Shelter, Community Center, Cultural Center to ultimately be owned by a local government entity.

This multi-purpose buliding will serve as a comminity cultural center as well as a hurricane shelter during a state of emgency for residents of Southern Highlands County as well as evacuees from our coastal areas. We are a "host" county and we do not have a wind-compliant shelter at the Southern end of Highlands County.
