Project Description: |
The Darrell Gwynn Foundation (DGF) is a 501(c)3 organization founded in 2002 that aims to prevent, provide for, and ultimately cure, spinal cord injuries. Part of the Foundations mission is to improve the quality of life for those suffering from spinal cord injuries or other debilitating diseases. As a way to achieve this goal, the Foundation, several years ago, began the Wheelchair Donation Program. This program is designed to help improve the mobility and increase an individuals ability to live a fuller life. Since the programs inception, the Foundation has given away over 35 new power wheelchairs, valued at an average of $10,000 each. In 2007, DGF provided wheelchairs to children in Miami-Dade, Alachua, Brevard, Lee, Palm Beach, and Volusia Counties. DGF plans to increase the number of chairs it is giving away annually, which is invaluable at a time when Medicare has recently modified their reimbursement procedure for power wheelchairs and is making it increasingly difficult to receive this basic necessity. |
