Project Description: |
Alachua County, the City of Gainesville and other local government entities propose to implement new, and enhance existing programs, projects and services in the field of health care, mental health care, housing, social services, drug and alcohol treatment, vocational training, job placement, court services and institutional discharge planning and coordination as part of a multi-year plan to combat jail overcrowding, homelessness, chronic addiction, mental illness and unemployment in Alachua County. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
1. Prevent or reduce homelessness, addiction, unemployment, mental illness and incarceration among individuals and families who are clearly headed toward that outcome. 2. Intervene with individuals identified with needs in the target areas, to reduce the cycle through the criminal justice, treatment and social services system. 3. Treat chronically homeless, mentally ill and/or chronic substance abusing individuals through a comprehensive assessment, treatment and case management approach to provide supportive services necessary to maximize self-sufficiency, establish permanent housing, sustainable employment, and on-going aftercare support. 4. Implement a Crisis Management Housing Unit at the Alachua County Jail to house inmates who are acutely mentally ill and/or those who are suicidal and in need of close observation. 5. Reduce jail inmate recidivism. |
